Project Prometheus was a program designed to "turn out persons aware of the needs of the society in which they live." Students were selected from seven southwest Oregon counties considered culturally deprived because of their geographical location. They were introduced to art, music, literature, drama, conservation, urban renewal studies, studies of cultural conflicts within the nation and a variety of other material to "expand our horizons." Speakers from all over the United States presented lectures and activities included field trips to the mountains and to the desert. Through designing clothing and posters, painting, producing anthologies, poetry and short stories they were expected to learn to evaluate, to make decisions and to use our own potential.
